Gift Boxes
Recently I have been busy making gift boxes of cupcakes for some lovely ladies at work. I have really loved being creative and creating variations on my 'girly' theme. I have got some new tools -
- Tappit alphabet and number cutters are a great way to add messages to your baking and are the perfect size for cupcakes.
- Butterfly and flower decorations - for these I use the PME plunger cutters. After a few floppy, crumbly and cracked disasters, I have found that a mixture of 50% flower paste and 50% sugar paste works best for making these - the icing can be rolled much more thinly than 100% sugar paste and the decorations stay firm when in place on the cupcakes.
- Piping Nozzles. Having spent many frustrating sessions piping rubbish swirls and being unable to make beautiful rose swirls, I invested in a couple of new nozzles from www.lindyscakes.co.uk. I chose to buy from this site as it has really useful examples of what effects you can create with the different nozzles. I chose the Wilton 1M and 2D, both of which can be used to create the effects seen below.
So, here is what I created with the above tools. All my gift boxes are packaged in boxes from http://www.cupcakeboxesuk.com/ - in my opinion, the best value and most reliable cupcake box service around!

I have also recently tried my hand at painted cupcake toppers after being asked to create some simple giraffe themed cupcakes. These were great fun to down and went down very well, but I think I need a little more practise with the paintbrush before I am an expert!

My final contribution for today is the cakes I made for Comic Relief. I sold these at the school where I teach and they were very popular - they raised over £50 for these cupcakes and cake pops.
